BibRave Pro Product Review: OOFOS OOcloog Project Pink Clogs

“Feel the OO”

So you may remember I had the chance to “feel the OO” for the first time last summer when I tested and reviewed the OOriginal Sport Sandals.  Another opportunity as a BibRave Pro came to test a shoe from the Project Pink line.  I was originally going to pass this one up but then I found out… OOFOS makes clogs!

Why was I so excited about the clogs?  Because I can wear them to work!

OOFOS is a recovery footwear brand made for an active lifestyle.  Although I spend a good amount of time sitting at my desk, I am on my feet most of the work day running around in between teaching classes, training clients, working with therapy patients and covering the gym/pool.  In all my years at Cape Cod Rehab and Mashpee Fitness, I have always just worn sneakers to work.  I mean I LOVE my sneakers—I own Nike Lunarglides in every color of the rainbow to match all my work outfits—but it was nice to switch it up and wear a black clog that not only went with everything but also felt extremely comfortable and looked a little nicer and dressier than my everyday work shoe.

Some of the OOFOS clog features:

·      OOfoam absorbs 37% more shock than other materials
·      Reduces stress on sore feet, knees and lower back
·      Cradles your arches
·      Biomechanically designed footbed allows natural motion
·      Moisture resistant; doesn’t retain smell
·      Durable OOfoam holds its cushion
·      Machine washable
·      So light they float

So what’s the deal with Project Pink?

“This extends beyond footwear to a cause that strikes way too close to home: the fight against breast cancer.

Duncan Finigan is a long time member of the OOFOS family and was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer in October 2014.  After Duncan’s diagnosis, it was an easy decision for us to choose breast cancer research as the cause that OOFOS would stand behind.

With every pair of the Pink collection that we sell, OOFOS will donate 100% of the proceeds to Dana-Farber breast cancer research.  As one of the world’s leading cancer care centers, the Dana-Farber team works tirelessly to find a cure to help the millions around the world that are affected.”

You can read more about Duncan’s story here:

When do I wear my clogs?

Like I already said… I wear them to work!  I throw them on after my run and to go outside with the pup.  I’ve been wearing them to run errands after work, to go to the grocery store and when I’m out and about on weekends.

Other bonuses:

·      The arch support is unreal.  I have a high arch and I love that I can feel it.
·      From afar you may think the clogs look thick and heavy however they are super lightweight and non-bulky.
·      While I only wore the clogs with socks, you could wear them without.  They are made of the same material as the sandals and don’t retain smell.
·      The clog comes in a shiny or matte finish.  I opted for the matte finish.
·      No pedicure was needed to review this style of OOFOS!

Cons:

·      If the clog style isn’t for you, the Project Pink line also features a few different varieties of sandals.
·      Clogs don’t quite go with leggings, tights, capris or shorts—but who cares!  I make it work.

Happy running!

P.S. Georgie totally gives OOFOS “2 paws up!”

Weekly Roundup 3.20-3.26

Another good week of running with only 3 weeks to go until 13.1 miles in Newport.  Even though I am using the race as a training run for the Buffalo Half Marathon, I still want to do well and feel good.

I was really nervous going into this week because of the 3x1 mile workout I had on the schedule.  I knew it was going to be a challenge but at the same time a good test of my fitness.  The weather was *decent* on Monday—except for the nasty wind!—so I got those mile repeats out of the way right away and I did a little better than expected.  The first mile I was cruising.  The second mile was work.  The third mile was a total sufferfest.  My heart rate peaked at 187 bpm.  In fact my watch told me I needed 3 days to recover!  Sorry Garmin, I ain’t got time for that!

On Tuesday, I went to…. wait for it…. RUN CLUB!  First run club of the year!  It was Tuesday night and it wasn’t raining or snowing and it was still light out from daylight savings time.  I was tired after a long day at work and not a lot of sleep the night before (Georgie decided to bark at nothing for TWO HOURS straight starting at 12:30am) but I had a great, easy run with Kyle and Gary.

Wednesday = more rain.  Rain = treadmill.  Treadmill --> repeat workout from Eric.

I was in another Workweek Hustle Fitbit Challenge with Lee and Ally this week so I wanted to do my long run on Friday.  I still lost.  Ally has horses.  She gets in about 5,000 steps 2x per day just shoveling 💩.  But anyways, I got Georgie out for a little neighborhood walk/run/sniff/stop/sit in the middle of the road training session before heading back out for 7 miles on my own.  It was another windy day—I’m so sick of the strong, swirling Cape Cod wind!—but I really wanted to focus on the middle miles.  I ended up running 7:15, 7:14, 7:13, 7:03 so I was very happy with it.

Saturday’s run was the total opposite.  The goal was keep it easy and I did just that.  Literally.

Other highlights:

·      I signed up for the Piggy Trot!
·      This weekend I got to hang out with some of my best running ladies—Christa, Trask and Anna—and met Baby Lizzy!  She was born on 2/23.  Erik says she’s going to be a hockey player and golfer but we all know she will be a runner like her speedy mama Christa.

I signed up for the Piggy Trot!

What: The 8th Annual Piggy Trot

Where: Dowses Beach, Osterville, MA

When: May 21, 2017

The Piggy Trot has become one of my favorite events every spring and this year I will be back for my 7th straight!  The race falls only one week before the Buffalo Half Marathon and like last year, I will use it as a tune up to practice race morning routines.  Run comfortably fast—hopefully with my coworker Eric—and avoid the urge to race for the pig trophy.

If you are unfamiliar with the Piggy Trot, it’s a 3.7 mile race through beautiful Osterville, MA that starts and finishes at Dowses Beach.  The Glenna Kohl Fund for Hope puts on the race and Cape Cod Rehab has been a sponsor for 7 (maybe even 8?!) years.  Glenna (nicknamed “Piggy”) was a Town of Barnstable lifeguard who passed away from Melanoma at a very young age and her charity raises money and awareness in her honor.  One of their missions is to support and protect Cape Cod lifeguards by supplying sunscreen and putting up shade canopies on lifeguard stands.

T-shirts and swag bags with full size sunscreen are given to the first 200 registrants.  The race also features cash prizes, pig trophies, age group medals and a ton of great raffles.

Join me on May 21st by registering through the Glenna Kohl Fund for Hope website.  They also take monetary donations if you are unable to attend.

Weekly Roundup 3.13-3.19

Happy Birthday to me!

Did you know that I LOVE birthdays?!  Turning the big 3-0 last year sucked big time but I was feeling really good about turning 31.

I kicked off my Birthday Week with a special Monday night RuNGuac with Allison, Stacey, Gary, Jason and Danielle!  I debated all day if I should go or not—I mean it WAS a work night!—but a possible Tuesday storm and a little push from my coworkers and afternoon clients made me go.  I mean who could turn down RuNGuac?  We all met at 6pm for a 4 mile run in Falmouth then it was off to Anejo for all the chips and guacamole we could eat… along with sangria, dinner and fried ice cream, of course.  I was stuffed.

📷: Cape Cod Runner
There was huge storm predicted for Tuesday but it ended up being absolutely nothing but a little wind on Cape Cod. Patients were cancelling appointments all day long no reason.  The gym was dead.  I had a super small (but fun!) spin birthday party class in the morning and ended my day with the first of six Intro to Spin classes.

The weather was ok on Wednesday but it was still really windy and I left my watch at home so I ended up on the treadmill for my 4 mile run.  I did a little Fartlek mixing it up with 0.1 mile and 0.2 mile intervals at 9.0 mph with warm up, recovery and cool down all at 7.5 mph.  Eric gave me a new workout and I was quite proud of myself for making it through 3 sets.

I worked Friday morning then had to run some errands in Falmouth for work so I stayed in Falmouth to get in my long run.  The sun was shining, the wind was whipping and I just tried to stay as comfortable as I could for 10 miles.

Saturday morning I woke up a day older!  I had 4 miles on the schedule so I brought Georgie out for a bit then finished the rest on my own.

I showered then headed to my parents for Birthday Brunch!!  I really just wanted an excuse to drink mimosas—my favorite!  We also had French toast casserole, bacon and fruit salad, oh my!  It was a great day.
