The words no runner wants to hear...

No running 4-6 weeks.

That’s right.  It was considered a “minor procedure” at the dermatologist office.  I’m not injured.  Well I’m getting an MRI next week on the same foot but that hasn’t been stopping me.

The foot is a highly sensitive, complex structure made up of 26 bones, 19 large muscles, many smaller intrinsic muscles, and more than 100 ligaments.  The two main functions of the foot are support and propulsion.  When running, each foot comes into contact with the ground approximately 75 to 100 times per minute.  The force when your foot makes contact with the ground can be over 2.5 times your body weight!

All that pounding apparently is not good for the location of my incision.  Dr. Liska told me how much I rest and elevate the next 48 hours would have an effect on how quickly I recover.  External stitches will be removed in 2 weeks; internal stiches will dissolve within 4-6 weeks.  Sweet.

I will be returning for the second year in a row and I can’t wait!  It will be a fun filled summer weekend in Buffalo with my family.  The plan is to run the 5k with Ali and then head to the Ride for Roswell finish line to cheer on my cousin Melissa who will be riding 100 miles the same day!  Next step is to convince Michele, Kayel, BFF Barbie and Lindi Lou to sign up too!  :)

It’s 143 days away but I can be excited right?

Dr. Boyle is Awesome!

I’ve been dealing with an ongoing right foot/ankle issue for a while now and finally went back to get it checked out.  In April 2012, I saw Dr. Boyle’s PA at Cape Cod Orthopaedics and was not impressed.  I was diagnosed with ankle instability and sent home with a brace I never put on.  Ever.

This time I waited for an appointment with Dr. Boyle and it was so worth the wait!  Not only did he attend medical school at University of Buffalo and share my love for Wegmans, he spent a lot of time with me and really made me understand what was going on with my foot.

He’s sending me for an MRI and I’ll be back in his office on February 26th to discuss the results.

Wish me luck!
