Weekly Roundup 6.20-6.26

I ran 22 miles this week that included a long run of 9 miles!

Monday was the first official day of summer!  FINALLY.  That makes me so happy.  I ran after work and threw in some strides trying to get some speed back before the Runner’s World Classic.

Side note: I won’t be racing any of the hat trick events but its still important to get the mileage in and work on some speed to show up to the start line feeling good!  There is still time to sign up—and use code RAVE for 10% off all races!

Tuesday was Run Club and a record number for the Marathon Sports Mashpee location.  As usual, Gary decided to lay down the hammer once we reached 3 miles so Gary, Jason & I turned it into a little 2x1/2 mile speed work.  It was hot, humid and no fun at all.  The only thing getting us to the end was knowing that the Organic Market was hosting post-run and had us all over for sandwiches and smoothie samples.  So good!

Friday was a Marathon Sports Pub Run from the BBC in Falmouth and I was SO looking forward to going.  I missed my Wednesday run so I decided that Friday morning I would go out for an easy 4 miles then get in the 3 miles at night at the Pub Run.  Plans changed when I got called into work.  I was so bummed.  The weather was PERFECT for running and the FOMO was hitting hard as I caught up on emails and made a few new spin playlists at work.  My parents did go visit the G and delivered some ice cream on their way home though.

My long run came on Saturday morning when yet again I waited until after 10am to start running—I’m so smart.  It was tough.  But I took it slow and stopped for a few water breaks to enjoy the scenery and take a few pictures.

Weekly Roundup 6.13-6.19

I ran 20 miles this week!  I feel like I’m kinda sorta getting back into a groove.  I don’t really have a choice because the Runner’s World Classic is in 4 weeks.  I’m going to have fun with the races—yes RACES, there are 3 in 1 weekend—but I still want to have SOME solid running under my belt.

The running week started on Tuesday at Run Club.  I hate missing Mondays but it just wasn’t my day.  Run Club was fun and I even stopped out for a drink after.  Shocked?  I had Wednesday off :) so I didn’t really have an excuse.

Wednesday was a lazy, lazy day off with Georgie.  My run was tough.  It was hot.

Friday’s run was decent but I did NOT want to run Saturday morning.  I woke up early (7am ish) and spent the next 3 hours convincing myself to skip my long run.  But around 10am I changed my mind, hopped in the car and headed to Falmouth for a brutal 8 miles.  That’s what I get for waiting until 10:30am to run…

Georgie updates:

My high maintenance, problem child pup went back to the vet this week.  She was diagnosed with a shoulder sprain and on “strict rest” for 2 weeks.  2 WEEKS!  It’s going to be horrible.  On another note, Georgie no longer sleeps in her crate!  I now have a personal wake up call on my sleep in days.

Other highlights:
·      I had a BLAST on Friday night at Stacey’s #40overboardy birthday party!  So fun hanging out with Run Club friends all dressed up and ON A BOAT.

Weekly Roundup 5.30-6.5 & 6.6-6.12

I’ve only run four times in the 2 weeks since the Buffalo Half Marathon.  On the drive back from Buffalo, I went back and forth from “Should I try to sign up for a June half marathon since I’m in PR shape?” to “I am just going to take a few weeks off to let my injury heal and recharge” and then “Oh shoot, I have to get ready for the Runner’s World Classic in July!”

Well, finding a half marathon for a second shot at a PR attempt didn’t happen mostly due to the lack of Saturday races in June.  In the meantime, I was enjoying the lack of training plan freedom and being lazy with my pup—who happened to be injured and wounded and resting right with me.

Other highlights:

·      June 1st was Global Running Day!  The goal is to get moving and inspire others.  I hope you all did your part.
·      June 3rd was National Donut Day!  I hope you all did your part on this day as well…
·      I made my own Pumpkin Granola Bars!  I was so proud of myself.  Here’s the recipe: http://www.jenrunsfastblog.com/2014/06/pumpkin-granola-bars.html
·      My cousins Melissa and Michele signed up for another half marathon!  The Buffalo Half Marathon was Melissa’s first while Michele ran Houston & Buffalo.  I’m so happy and proud of those girls.  They are hooked—running is contagious!
·      Running Buddy sent me a new Buddy Pouch!  When I got home from Buffalo I remembered that my Buddy Pouch fell in a porta potty after the Buffalo Marathon so I tweeted about it.  (I didn’t try to retrieve it.)  Running Buddy reached out, asked for my address, and a few days later… I had a brand new Buddy Pouch!
