NYC Marathon Training | Week 15 of 16

15 weeks down, 1 to go!

Race week is here! I can’t even believe it. I also hit by fundraising goal for the MEB Foundation with donations still coming in. So cool to have so many people support me and to know we are making an impact by helping youth in the areas of health, education and fitness.

As for last week…

Monday was a normal rest day. I didn’t have anyone for Foam Roll & Stretch class so I actually slept in a little. These next 2 weeks sleep is extra important so its nice to sneak in some extra hours where ever I can.

I didn’t run again on Tuesday because after work we had our Employee Appreciation Party.  That made 3 non-running days in a row for me! Thank you taper time.

I ran an easy 3 miler on Wednesday. The weather was windy but beautiful. I opened at work on Thursday morning so I left work earlier than usual. I came home thinking I would catch Craig before he went into work but just missed him. Now I was at home staring at a crazy Reggie, eager to join me on my run. It was 71 degrees. We stayed close to home because I didn’t know how far she’d make it being this warm in late October. She lasted 2 miles before I dropped her off at home and continued on for another 2 on my own. Later I got to watch the Bills on Thursday Night Football. BIG DUBS.

Friday was another 3 miler. It was cloudy but a lot warmer than I thought. During my run I was thinking about how many times I would stop and walk on a 3 mile run early on in training. I’ve come a long way since starting the year off with 6 weeks on the couch! That night I re-watched Spirit of the Marathon for more motivation.

I worked Saturday afternoon and took a day off from running. Instead I set up a halloween photoshoot with the pups then took G by Naukabout in her pineapple costume. Tis the season.

Sunday morning was my final long run before 26.2. I had 10 on the schedule. They were predicting rain to start around 11am so I hoped to be out the door around 9am. My dad joined me on the bike. I forgot to use my inhaler and left my body glide at home. I didn’t take any pictures. We made 2 quick stops at the beach and only found one tiny piece of sea glass. I was in “just get it done” mode. It was ONLY 10 miles. I was ready to get it over with - before the rain - and move on to RACE WEEK! LET’S GOOOO!

Weekly Roundup 4.9-4.15 & 4.16-4.22

Week 16 of 16

“I’m on the right track baby, I was born to be brave.”

If you missed it… I ran the Boston Marathon last week!  It was windy.  It was rainy.  It was cold.

You can read my full race report here:

Last week was my last week of taper and consisted of a few easy 3 mile runs.  In fact, I forgot my watch one day and didn’t even care!  I didn’t lift at all—instead I chose to use that extra time to put my feet up and relax.

This week was all about recovery.  The day after the marathon I went into work and taught spin class from a chair with my feet up on the bike.  I was sore on Tuesday but the DOMS really hit me on Wednesday.  They weren’t kidding that Boston beats up your quads!  My appetite was off for a few days after the marathon too.  When I got home from Boston Monday night I had a big bowl of Ramen noodles—hello salt!—then the next few days everything I ate made me feel nauseous.  I’ve never felt that before after a marathon but maybe hypothermia had something to do with it?  They also say you’re more at risk of dehydration during cold races but who knows why I could’t eat.

Regan subbed my Thursday spin class and on Saturday Georgie and I met my mom at the beach for a nice walk.

Sunday morning I taught spin class from the bike and was huffing and puffing the whole way.  That night I went home and did a 20 minute Pilates video.  I don’t plan on running for another week and I’m going to enjoy this time off…

Weekly Roundup 4.2-4.8

Week 15 of 16

“I’m on the right track baby, I was born to be brave.”

I am one week away from the Boston Marathon.  That’s 7 days.  SEVEN!  Can you believe it?

On Monday I followed Greg’s plan with lighter weight but the strangest thing happened.  I had a set of walking lunges to end my workout but I couldn’t do them!  My quads were cramping.  Practically shaking.  I called it quits and went for an easy 3 mile run.

I didn’t run on Tuesday but all day and night my legs were SO SORE to touch.  I was freaking out so I set my alarm 30 minutes early to #NormaTecAndChill before work on Wednesday.  I skipped my workout on Wednesday out of fear and hopped on the treadmill for 4 more easy miles.

I didn’t run again on Thursday.  I woke up Friday morning feeling good but totally lazy.  Rain was in the forecast for the afternoon but it was so cold in the morning.  I was not in the mood to bundle up so I went to the gym for a treadmill run and light workout instead.

The laziness continued on Saturday.  I ONLY had 10 miles on the schedule but I didn’t want to do it!  I talked to Joe yesterday and he felt the same way.  Taper is nice… but I take it way too seriously.  Couch and Gossip Girl FTW.

I finally did get my butt moving and got the job done in Cotuit but only because I had a date with Anejo that afternoon.  15 weeks down, 1 week to go!
