Weekly Roundup 7.10-7.16

Week 3 of 12

This week brought the challenge of heat, humidity and friends.  To free up my weekend I rearranged my run schedule with the intent on packing on some miles early in the week, run long on Wednesday, and squeeze in a Sunday evening run.  The plan was 24 miles but I came up short…

Monday was Cape Cod Rehab’s group run so I ran 3 miles with the group but not before running 3 miles on my own at home.  I threw in 1 mile Fartlek to reintroduce my legs to speed work.  It felt great!

On Tuesday I chose pizza over run club… (no comment) but I woke up pretty early on Wednesday morning to run long.  I had the day off but oh em gee it was humid—miserable actually—but I knew I had to get it done.  The first few miles were ok.  I even passed a guy on the path that threw up a peace sign and yelled at me to “get ittttt.”  I was actually going a lot faster than I had planned until I was about a mile and a half from home in when the humidity really got to me and I rode the struggle bus the rest of the way.  I ran.  I walked.  I stopped in front of the donut truck for awhile wishing I had money with me.  I poured water over my head and shuffled my way home.  I can’t even tell you how long I sat on my porch before I stopped sweating!  It was awful and I was wiped out for the rest of my day off!

Since I missed running Tuesday night, I knew I had to run Thursday morning before work.  More humidity.  G struggled.  I struggled.  I questioned why I liked to run.

I was up early Friday morning to pick Jen up from the bus station!  She flew in on a red eye from Wyoming for the weekend.  Her family was relocated out there 5 years ago and man I miss her.  Our friend Nicole who now lives in Florida was supposed to come too but her family got sick the week of her trip.  Jen and I hung out for the day, had ice cream for lunch then met up with Sarah for dinner.

Saturday morning our alarms went off at 4am because we were headed to Boston.  Sarah was running the Run to Home Base at Fenway Park in support of Veterans and their families.  Jen and I served as cheering squad for Sarah along with her husband Nathan and son Landon.  It was early but we had a blast.  We all spent the rest of the day in the city… brunch, mimosas, visited Nathan’s firehouse, hotel pool party… then we went to this awesome restaurant called the Tip Tap Room for dinner and drinks.  Jen ordered the antelope and I had wild boar.  Really?  Woo!

Sunday led to more adventures before we had to drop Jen off at the airport.  By the time I got home, I was exhausted and running seemed ridiculous buttt I laced up my running shoes and ran 2 miles.  That was all I had.

Other highlights:

·      I have to add a big congratulations to Sarah for completing the Run to Home Base 9k.  Not only did she fundraise for a wonderful cause but also followed a plan and she trained hard.  I’m so proud of her!

·      5 weeks until the Falmouth Road Race!
·      9 weeks until Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia!

Weekly Roundup 7.3-7.9

Week 2 of 12

Happy Birthday America!  Oh my gosh, I love the 4th of July.

The past few weeks I’ve been leading the Monday night group runs at Cape Cod Rehab but with the terrible holiday traffic on the 3rd, I decided not to go back for it and I asked Erin led the run.  (Thanks Erin!)  Instead I met up with Kellen after work for a run around my neighborhood.  He signed up for the Falmouth Road Race so it’s time for him to get training!  After our run we went down to Oregon Beach and soaked up the last bit of sun for the day, ate a ton of his homemade salsa and tried the Hell or High Watermelon Beer that Melissa made me buy when I was home in Buffalo.  Loved it!

Tuesday was the 4th—aka a bonus mid-week day off!  I picked up some fresh apple cider donuts from Cape Cod Coffee and went to Craig’s house for a morning of paddle boarding at his pond.

After that I picked up G and we were off to my parents house for an afternoon by the pool.  I made it out for 5 miles in the heat when we got home.  That night my neighbors were lighting off fireworks for HOURS so it was HOURS of trying to calm G down.  I felt so bad for her.  It was a long night for both of us.

I was pretty tired at work on Wednesday and was not feeling the run.  I brought G out for about a mile to get me going but I could only get through 2 miles on my own.

Friday morning was probably the highlight of the week even though my week even though my whole week was pretty great.  I met up with my friend Michelle for 6 miles in Falmouth.  Why was it so great?  Michelle was one of my best friends from when I was 11 years old until I was about 13 or 14 when we swam together at the Cape Cod Swim Club.  As the awkward nerdy girl with glasses and braces, I always wondered why Michelle the cute bubbly blonde would want to hang out with me.  We started to grow apart but saw each other often as we competed against each other all 3-seasons (cross country, indoor track & outdoor track)—I was from Falmouth, she ran for Plymouth South.  We really grew apart after high school (she moved to CA) but reconnected a few years ago through social media.

Side note: Michelle is so fun to follow on Instagram (@miss_chelle)—her pictures are awesome and her words are motivating.  She ran her first marathon in June and I can’t wait to see what she’s going to do next!

Our run took us for 6 miles along the water through Falmouth Heights.  We talked and laughed the whole way and of course stopped for many photo ops.  You would never have known that we hadn’t actually seen each other in 13 years.

Saturday was another “just get through it” kind of run.  I was tired and allergies were making me blah but I did it.  I got through it.  And I was happy that my weekly mileage totaled 22 miles, 11 of which I had company for.

Other highlights:

·      I went to Sandy Neck on Wednesday night for the first of hopefully many beach fires of the summer!

·      Friday night I took my mom to a concert at Fenway Park.  We saw Chris Lane, Nelly, Backstreet Boys and Florida Georgie Line.  It was SO MUCH FUN!  Nelly made me feel like I was 18 again (“18 with an attitude, 19 feeling snotty acting real rude…”) and he played ALL the hits.  The Backstreet Boys were also a blast from the past.  They were my first concert ever when I was 11 years old in 1997.  Backstreet’s back, alright!

I signed up for the Falmouth Road Race!

What: New Balance Falmouth Road Race

Where: Falmouth, MA

When: August 20, 2017

I’m officially in for 2017!

After missing last year’s Falmouth Road Race due to injury and running a miserable race the year before, I knew I wanted to give Falmouth another try.  Plus race weekend is like a big family reunion for me and I get to see so many friends and former coworkers on race day.  Why would I miss it?

I may not have ran in 2016 but I sure participated in post-race activities!
Will you be running this year?

The lottery is closed but there are still charity numbers available or message me because I have an extra registration code.  😉

Weekly Roundup 6.26-7.2

Week 1 of 12

This week kicked off Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia training.  I’m feeling good and motivation is high.  11 weeks until 13.1 miles.  I’m looking to keep this momentum rolling!

I started the week running 3 miles with my Cape Cod Rehab running group.  In it’s third week, we saw the highest number of participants on a perfect evening to run.

I missed Run Club on Tuesday night after I was looking forward to making it two weeks in a row partly because I had to pick Georgie up from doggy daycare and also because a friend invited me over for dinner.  Oops.  I guess even when your motto is #NoExcuses, you still make excuses occasionally.  But guess why Georgie was at daycare?  My floors were getting installed.  Finally!  Remember back in April when my dad and I ripped up the old floors up?  It’s been a long couple of months and I’m so happy with the finished product.

Wednesday I got back on track with the 5 miles I was supposed to run at Run Club and I got in another short run with Georgie on Thursday morning.  Friday consisted of 6 hot and humid miles and I finished up the run week on Saturday… another awfully humid day.

Other highlights:

·      My baby turned 3 on Thursday!  Happy Birthday Georgie!

·      Friday night I went “back on the boat!”  Run club friends Stacey and Gary hosted a 2-hour sunset boat party on Bay Spirit Tours out of Hyannis for the second year in a row.  It was windy and it was wavy but we all had a blast!
